7-year-old Girl from Pennsylvania Unexpectedly Visits Her 100-year-old ‘Best Friend’ on His Birthday in Newtown Twp., Bucks County

100th Birthday Celebration in Newtown, Pennsylvania

A local resident of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Joe Gagliardi, marked his 100th birthday in a unique way. Thanks to his 7-year-old best friend, Layla Leuthy Peck, the centenarian celebration was a memorable one.

A Grand Entrance for the Birthday Boy

Layla, in true epic fashion, pulled up to Joe’s house on a Newtown Township Fire truck, making for a thrilling entrance. The arrival, complete with sirens and horns, was a party highlight.

100 Years of Friendship and Humor

“We’re both the same age,” Gagliardi humorously stated, highlighting the bond he shares with Layla. They have been friends since Layla was a baby, a friendship that spans over 7 years.

A Tribute to a World War II Veteran

During the celebration, Gagliardi, a World War II veteran, was presented with a flag flown over the capital building in Washington D.C. in his honor.

Community Support for the Centenarian

The Newtown Fire and Police departments were present in full force to acknowledge Gagliardi’s milestone. Among them was Layla’s father, Sean Peck, an officer with the Penndel Police department.

A Gift of 100 Handmade Cards

The highlight of the day was Layla’s presentation of 100 handmade cards, created by her friends at St. Andrew’s Catholic School in Newtown. Layla stated, “Since he’s turning 100, we should make him 100 cards, ’cause he’s a good person! The whole first grade did.”

The Legacy of Service and Sacrifice

Joe’s life story of service and sacrifice serves as a living example for young Layla and the community. His stories have inspired many, including Layla’s policeman father, Sean Peck, to join the Army.
