Riverside Healthcare Acquires Former Cigna Property in Bourbonnais

In a recent development, Riverside Healthcare has been gifted the long-vacant former Cigna property in Bourbonnais. This news underscores the growing trend of healthcare facilities expanding their operations through strategic property acquisition.

About the Former Cigna Property

The property, located at 4882 N. Convent St., Bourbonnais, spans a massive 155,000 square feet. It has been mostly vacant since 2015 but was once a bustling site for Cigna insurance from 2000 to 2015 with around 1,200 employees. The Bourbonnais Township Assessor’s Office values the property at over $8.25 million as of 2024.

The Journey of the Property

BHCP of Bourbonnais LLC, an offshoot of Encino-based Hager Pacific Properties, owned the property since 2006. Despite multiple attempts to attract interest for the property after Cigna’s exit, no buyer was found. Considerations were even made to transform it into a school or residential property.

The Property’s Fresh Chapter with Riverside Healthcare

After many years of vacancy, the property is now in the possession of Riverside Healthcare. Located adjacent to the healthcare system’s Fitness Center, the property’s future use is still being decided. Riverside President and CEO, Phil Kambic, sees the new acquisition as a natural extension of their Bourbonnais campus and a part of their ongoing mission to provide quality healthcare services to the community.

Riverside Healthcare’s Commitment to Community Service

Riverside Healthcare operates more than 40 locations across Kankakee, Iroquois, Will, and Grundy counties. This nonprofit organization has a history of receiving donations like the former Cigna property. For instance, in 2012, they were gifted three buildings in the Meadowview Shopping Center in Kankakee. These facilities now provide space for numerous patient-facing and support services. As Kambic notes, these gifts greatly aid Riverside in its mission to increase care accessibility for the community.
