Impact Sports and Fitness Annual Event: Exciting News & Updates
Get ready for the annual ‘Impact the Cause’ event, organized by Impact Sports and Fitness, this coming September. The event this year is not only moving to a new venue but also introducing exciting new activities. Their aim is to give the event a fresh, renewed focus.
The organizers have decided that this year’s event will channel contributions towards youth health initiatives. These initiatives are specifically for kids aged 12 to 19, according to Anita Larson, the manager of Impact Sports and Fitness.
Event Details and Registration
The much-anticipated event is scheduled to commence at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Memorial Hospital. The day’s line-up includes a 5K run, a two-mile walk, and a community breakfast. The highlight of the day will be the official ribbon-cutting ceremony of the new community playground.
Registration for this fun-filled day will cost you $30 in advance or $35 on the day of the event. As an added bonus, registration includes a t-shirt.
A Shift in Focus
While the event was originally known as ‘Impact the Cure’ and raised funds for breast cancer initiatives, last year marked a significant shift. The organizers opted to broaden their scope and focus on different health causes each year.
Larson states that their decision to transition to ‘Impact the Cause’ allows them to continually change the recipient of the funds raised. The flexibility of this approach means they can heed the call of different health causes each year.
Funds raised from the 2024 event went towards support for public transportation to the hospital, trail development, and the purchase of new playground equipment. This equipment will be officially opened at this year’s event.
Focus on Youth Health
Larson views youth health as a pressing issue. She notes that technology has significantly altered the lives of children and emphasizes the importance of encouraging exercise from a young age. This way, they grow up with it as a part of their lifestyle, and it’s not limited purely to the physical.
The youth initiative, which will include strategies to get them into the gym, aims to help the youth discover new and enjoyable ways to exercise. Whether it’s boxing, TRX, spin classes, or one-on-one personal training, Larson believes that accessibility and enjoyment are the key to wellness.
Community Playground and Walking Trail: Now Open
The grand opening of the playground will be part of the day’s celebration. Larson is already seeing it become a valuable asset to the community. It’s a wonderful addition to the east side of town for children. There’s also a handy walking trail, perfect for parents to enjoy while their older children play.
According to Billy Hansen, the public relations coordinator for Memorial Health System, the playground project was made possible by grants and donations to the Memorial Health Foundation. He encourages everyone to check it out. “It’s a great place to either exercise or just relax on one of the benches along the walking trail,” he said.
He also hinted at upcoming additions and enhancements to the Walking Trail, promising even more ways to connect with wellness and nature.
