Google’s Pixel Watch 4 and Fitbit App Redesign
At the recent Made By Google event, Google introduced a new ‘personal health coach’ for its Pixel Watch 4 and Pixel 10 devices. Included within the Fitbit app, the health coach service will start a preview rollout for Premium users in the US from October. Its new design will become available with the latest Fitbit trackers, Fitbit smart watches and Pixel watches.
Fitbit App’s New UI and Personalized Metrics
Fitbit users will notice a visual refresh for the app. Replacing the current organization system are four tabs: Today, Fitness, Sleep, and Health. Each tab will present daily progress stats in a customizable format, with the ability to display your preferred metrics. Below these stats, you can view upcoming workouts, recent activity, and progress reports, all delivered in individual cards that can be tapped for additional details. This layout will be consistent across all four tabs.
The AI Coach Experience
An integral part of the new Fitbit app is the AI coaching facility. The app has been rebuilt with AI and coaching at its core, enabling the health coach to understand your goals, design your plans, contextualize your metrics, and deliver insights at crucial moments. This shift means AI features are integrated across the app, not just confined to a dedicated tab.
Tailoring the Fitness Journey
The AI Coach aims to personalize your fitness journey. Upon your first use of the new app, the AI coach will ask you about your goals, available equipment, preferences, injuries, or other relevant medical history. This data will inform your custom workout plan, while any changes in your capacity, priorities, or equipment availability will trigger modifications. The coach will base workouts on your information, providing detailed instructions and weekly progression metrics.
Understanding Your Sleep Better
A key part of the Fitbit app update includes improved sleep algorithms. This innovation promises more precise comprehension of your sleep duration and stages. Further, the coach will guide you on how to improve your sleep, based on your patterns throughout the week and recommendations for changes over time.
AI Integration for Personalized Insights
Google’s AI coach can help sift through the data noise, providing personalized insights based on your activity and rest. This feature helps filter out irrelevant information and provides pertinent answers to your health-related questions. The coach will deliver regular performance reports, identifying trends and changes in your data.
Security and Trustworthiness Concerns
While AI integration can help make sense of vast amounts of data, concerns around data security and the trustworthiness of AI advice remain. Google is attempting to address these concerns by partnering with industry experts and conducting scientific research. However, it is crucial to remember that the AI Coach cannot replace a doctor or certified coach, and users should always exercise caution when following AI-generated advice.
Testing the Redesigned Fitbit App
If you are a Fitbit Premium user based in the US and wish to try the redesigned Fitbit app and the new personal health coach feature, you can sign up to get notified when the preview becomes available in October.
