From 1980 to 1984, Simmons hosted the successful “Richard Simmons Show,” focusing on personal health and fitness. This program won four Daytime Emmys and his aerobic exercise videos, including 1988’s “Sweatin’ to the Oldies,” were well known. He used his infectious personality to make regular appearances across various TV shows.

Richard Simmons: From Overweight Child to Fitness Icon

In an interview with CNN in 2003, Simmons opened up about his experience as an overweight child. He confessed to engaging in dangerous weight loss methods as he grew older, but managed to turn his life around at the age of 16, starting on a path to fitness.
