Incident at Harris County 24 Hour Fitness Gym
In a recent occurrence in Harris County, Texas, a woman is reported to have attacked a fellow gym-goer with a weight. It is believed that she suspected the victim of having an affair with her partner.
Details of the Alleged Assault
As detailed in a press release issued by Mark Herman, the Harris County Constable for Precinct 4, local law enforcement officers were called to a 24 Hour Fitness Gym on January 7th following a report of aggravated assault.
The publication states, “The deputies on scene discovered that the female suspect had attacked another woman in the gym, who she recognized as someone her partner was involved with. In the course of the dispute, the suspect directed a weighted plate towards the other woman’s head, with the intention of inflicting harm.”
Identifying the Suspect
The suspect was named by the police as 25-year-old Aralyn Martinez, according to the press release. It was further reported by local news outlet KHOU that Martinez and the victim did not have a personal relationship and were merely at the gym at the same time. Unprovoked, Martinez is said to have lunged at the victim with the weight.
Avoiding Major Injury
By quickly dodging, the victim was allegedly able to avoid severe injury. “We are aware that a 25-pound weight, or any weight for that matter, could potentially be a lethal weapon depending on where it strikes the person,” stated Precinct 4 Captain, Juan Flores.
Legal Action
Aralyn Martinez was subsequently arrested and formally charged with aggravated assault.
