After a two-year process, the Emeryville Planet Fitness has officially opened its doors to the public today. Although Emeryville is abundant with smaller “boutique” exercise facilities, it has been lacking a more “accessible” option since the closure of the In-Shape at the Public Market back in 2016. Before the opening of this Emeryville branch, the nearest Planet Fitness was situated on Market Street in West Oakland.

The Emeryville Planet Fitness occupies the building at 4349 San Pablo Avenue, which was previously a CVS pharmacy that sat empty since 2022. It took over a year for Planet Fitness to secure approval from the Emeryville Planning Commission to operate beyond 10 pm. The building also required additional remediation work before it could house the 24-hour fitness club.
Planet Fitness’ Signature Look
The Planet Fitness’ signature purple and yellow colors have replaced the monotonous beige walls of the former CVS store. The once rows of consumer products are now replaced with state-of-the-art exercise equipment painted predominantly in the brand’s purple color.
