USA Today’s survey has shortlisted 20 small towns in the Northeast region of the country. Each of these quaint little towns has a population of less than 25,000 and offers its unique blend of stunning scenery, historic allure, local gastronomy, and alluring attractions. These nominated towns are tucked away in states like Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New Hampshire, and Vermont.

In Pennsylvania, the following towns have been featured in the survey, with their respective populations according to the 2021 census data:
- Gettysburg, Adams County – population 7,321
- Jim Thrope, Carbon County – population 4,560
- Ohiopyle, Fayette County – population 37
- Sewickley, Allegheny County – population 3,854
- Wellsboro, Tioga County – population 3,458
