Learn from Bodybuilding Legend Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Workout Secrets
If you’re fascinated by the world of bodybuilding and want to gain some insight, who better to learn from than the legend himself, Mr. Arnold Schwarzenegger? Known for his world-renowned physique as a seven-time Mr. Olympia champion, Schwarzenegger’s workout routine, especially his compound lifts, were exceptional during his peak bodybuilding years.
Schwarzenegger’s Record-Breaking Lifts
Sharing his personal records on The Pat McAfee Show, Schwarzenegger revealed, “My best bench press was 525, my best deadlift was 710, and my best squat was 610.” However, he was quick to note that today’s bodybuilders and weightlifters are achieving far more impressive figures. “I can tell you that, because today there’s guys that are squatting with 700, 800 pounds and there’s guys that bench press 600 pounds,” he said.
The Evolution of Bodybuilding
Schwarzenegger also acknowledges the evolution of bodybuilding over the years. “Their muscles are better now, and thicker, with more definition,” he observed. “So it’s a different era. But I was very happy with my lifts then, and it made me grow really fast.”
Schwarzenegger’s Current Fitness Routine
While he may not be lifting as heavily these days, Schwarzenegger remains dedicated to his fitness routine. He still works out six times a week, and his routine includes daily cycling trips to the Gold’s Gym for a 45-minute workout. “I go every day to the gym, I ride on my bike, I go down to Gold’s Gym, I work out 45 minutes and then I ride the bike back,” he shared. His mantra: “Remember: you rest, you rust.”
Embracing Age and Body Changes
At 76 years old, Schwarzenegger has come to terms with the fact that his body will never look the same as it did in his prime bodybuilding years during the late ’70s and early ’80s. Still, he maintains a positive outlook, telling Howard Stern, “It sucks, but it still looks better than the majority of bodies.”
