Trump’s Accusations and Online Posting Frenzy Probe Questions Over His Mental Health
President Donald Trump’s recent social media rampage, accusing former President Barack Obama of sedition and treason without any supporting evidence, has raised questions about his mental stability. This tirade stretched from midnight ET on Monday to 9:30 am ET on Tuesday, during which President Trump posted or reposted 77 times on his Truth Social account, averaging nearly 2.3 posts per hour.
Trump’s Social Media Usage Compared to Average
To put this into perspective, the average person spends approximately 2.5 hours per day on social media. Brands typically post once per day, while news media companies post about 12 times daily. The bulk of Trump’s posts were made within an hour, with over 50 posts and reposts made between 10:15 pm ET and 11:30 pm ET.
Trump’s Posts as Official Statements
During his first term, the Trump administration had indicated that his posts were meant to be viewed as official statements from the president. However, the recent posts that Trump has been sharing – often promoting unverified claims – have led to questions from both the left and the right about his mental fitness to remain in office.
Trump’s Accusations Against Obama
A significant number of Trump’s posts on Monday night were attacks on Obama, accusing the former president of plotting a coup using the investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election. Trump also shared unfounded conspiracy theories, claiming that voting machines were tampered with in the 2020 presidential race, resulting in his loss to former President Joe Biden.
In one of his posts, Trump shared a screenshot of a post from a right-wing user, alleging that Obama had spied on Trump during the 2016 presidential race and had ordered other allied countries to do the same. These claims have been widely debunked by fact-checking sites, including Snopes, which deemed his assertions as a false representation of actual events.
Punishment for Treason
The post continued with a call to “arrest them all, prosecute them all, incarcerate them all at once for treachery, treason, and seditious conspiracy to overthrow the United States government.” It is important to note that the federal punishment for treason can include the death penalty.
Attacks on Other Democratic Figures
Trump also targeted other Democratic figures, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. He insulted Jeffries by calling him “low IQ,” an insult he often uses disproportionately against nonwhite people. He accompanied this with an AI-doctored image of Jeffries in a decaying city neighborhood, littered with trash and infested with rats.
Trump Derangement Syndrome
Earlier on Monday, Trump accused his critics of having “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” outrageously suggesting that it is a diagnosable condition. In the words of President Trump, “They’ve got serious Trump Derangement, which actually is a disease. I’m hearing it is actually a disease.”
Trump’s Self Praise
Trump’s tirade against his opponents came a day after he spent a similar amount of time posting praise for himself. He shared content describing him as
