Two Powerful Tips for Weight Loss: Woman Sheds 240 Pounds Running

Remarkable Transformation: Samantha Hager’s Weight Loss Journey

Who can forget the day Samantha Hager decided to start running and embark on a transformative weight loss journey? Weighing close to 380 pounds, she was determined to change her life and improve her health.

A heart-breaking moment at an amusement park marked the turning point for Hager. She was unable to participate in any of the rides due to her size, triggering vivid memories of her own childhood when her overweight father could not join her on the rides.

The Running Journey Begins

Determined to not let history repeat itself, Hager, a 29-year-old resident of Boise, Idaho, made the decision to turn her life around. She chose running as her avenue for weight loss, an activity she disliked but believed would push her out of her comfort zone. Initially, she could only manage to run for 30 seconds. However, she persevered and signed up for a 5K.

Discovering the joy of pushing her limits, Hager progressed from a 5K to an ultra-marathon. On August 16, she is set to participate in the Life Time Leadville Trail 100 Run, a grueling 100-mile race in the Colorado Rockies.

Samantha’s Incredible Weight Loss

Through her dedication to running and a healthier lifestyle, Hager has lost almost 240 pounds without resorting to weight-loss drugs or surgery. Now weighing 140 pounds, she enjoys a healthy Body Mass Index (BMI) for her 5-foot-7-inch frame.

“I feel phenomenal,” she exclaims, radiating happiness and energy.

Overcoming Emotional Eating

Hager’s weight gain began after her family’s move from Los Angeles to Idaho. An athlete in high school, she loved bicycling and wrestling. However, upon discovering that her new school did not have a women’s wrestling team, she turned to food for comfort.

Unhealthy Eating Habits Take a Toll

Unhealthy eating habits coupled with emotional distress took a toll on her health. Her daily meals consisted of high-calorie fast food, sugary snacks, and large portions of carbohydrate-rich foods. By 2021, she weighed 379 pounds and was prediabetic, lethargic, and depressed.

Frustrated with her health and body image, Hager decided it was time to make a change after a trip to an amusement park with her future husband and his two sons.

Developing a Healthy Eating Plan

With running forming the core of her fitness plan, Hager soon realized the importance of a healthy diet in fueling her workouts. She began to research the foods runners eat and made gradual changes to her eating habits.

She replaced unhealthy snacks with healthier options like jicama, cucumber, and peppers. Her love for candy was substituted with fruit, satisfying her sweet tooth in a healthier manner. She also increased her water and tea intake, staying hydrated throughout the day.

Maintaining Consistency in a Healthy Lifestyle

Hager stresses the importance of consistency in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. She encourages others not to be too hard on themselves if they slip up occasionally, emphasizing that every meal is a new opportunity to make healthier choices.

As she gears up to compete in her first 100-mile race on August 16, Hager shares that it is not just about a diet, but a lifestyle change. Living proof of the power of determination and consistency, she continues to inspire others on their weight loss journey.
