USA Today recently recognized two of the best buffet restaurants in Central Pennsylvania. These local favorites were highlighted as they ranked among the top 10 USA Today Reader Choice 2024 award recipients for the best buffet restaurants in the United States.

These buffet restaurants were carefully chosen by an expert panel and validated by votes from USA Today readers. After the votes were counted, two buffets from Central Pennsylvania stood out as some of the best in the country.

Miller’s Smorgasbord: A Central Pennsylvania Buffet Classic

Landing the number 3 spot is Miller’s Smorgasbord, a beloved Lancaster County-based buffet situated at 2811 Lincoln Highway, East Ronks, PA. As stated on their website, this family-owned establishment commenced in 1929 and is celebrated for its delightful variety of hearty home-cooked meals served daily.

USA Today praises Miller’s Smorgasbord for its warm and homey atmosphere, and its diverse menu. Included in their traditional smorgasbord buffet are offerings such as Swedish meatballs, Lancaster County chicken corn soup, chicken and waffles, and Pennsylvania Dutch shoofly pie.

Shady Maple Smorgasbord: The Largest Buffet in America

Earning the top spot in the USA Today recognition is the popular Shady Maple Smorgasbord, located at 129 Toddy Drive, East Earl, PA. Shady Maple commenced as a farmers market before opening their “all you can eat” smorgasbord in 1985. This buffet, known as “the largest buffet in America,” can accommodate 1,200 diners at once and employs over 750 staff members.

USA Today extols Shady Maple for its mouthwatering Pennsylvania Dutch dishes served in a spacious, cafeteria-style setting. Additionally, they offer a gift shop for visitors and popular birthday specials.
