TL/DR –
A super PAC called America PAC has been formed by close friends of Elon Musk, including wealthy tech entrepreneurs, with the aim of supporting Donald Trump’s potential 2024 presidential bid. While it’s not confirmed if Musk has donated, he is likely to support the group, evidenced by his recent endorsement of Trump on social media and his leanings towards conservative causes. The super PAC, led partially by Joe Lonsdale, co-founder of Palantir, has already received significant donations from influential figures in the tech industry and intends to strategize and coordinate with potential candidates, including Trump.
Elon Musk Friends Establish Super PAC for Trump’s 2024 Election
Elon Musk’s affluent circle has formed a super PAC to support ex-President Donald J. Trump. This group, America PAC, paves the way for Musk’s $250 billion fortune to potentially impact the 2024 presidential race. Founding donors include Musk’s close allies who are often involved in financing each other’s startups, philanthropic ventures and political candidates.
Despite Musk not donating to the super PAC by end June, according to a Federal Election Commission filing, his recent conservative inclinations and endorsement of Trump on social media platform X, have left Republicans hopeful of his increased involvement in conservative fundraising. The America PAC has suggested a significant donor who would donate as much as $160 million in four batches throughout the campaign.
America PAC’s Leadership and Major Donors
Joe Lonsdale, Palantir co-founder and Austin-based venture capitalist, leads the super PAC alongside Musk. Lonsdale played a pivotal role in fundraising for the group, reeling in donations from influential entrepreneurs, including his personal $1 million contribution. Other key donors include several prominent conservative tech figures, such as Antonio Gracias, Ken Howery, and Shaun Maguire.
Details of America PAC’s operations and strategies remain sparse. However, it is known to be conducting field and digital programs to benefit the former president, focusing predominantly on encouraging early and mail-in voting. Dave Rexrode, a top political operative and ally to Gov. Glenn Youngkin of Virginia, is believed to be a key operative in the PAC.
Musk’s Alleged Support for the Group
As reported by The New York Times, America PAC spent approximately $15 million supporting Trump a few weeks after its formation, thereby drawing attention from Trump’s allies. The group managed to raise $9 million in the month following its inception. Musk, however, did not comment on his reported support for the group.
In their first public comment, the group stated, “We believe that four more years of Joe Biden is a grave threat to the financial and physical safety of the United States” to The New York Times, denouncing Biden administration’s policies on inflation, debt, and the border. Other tech supporters include the Winklevoss twins, Doug Leone, and John Hering.
