In the New York City mayor’s race, a new Suffolk University poll indicates that Andrew Cuomo has cut Zohran Mamdani’s lead to 10 points. Cuomo has garnered increased support from Hispanic and independent voters since September and needs the backing of voters presently supporting Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa to win. Mamdani, a democratic socialist, leads with 44% to Cuomo’s 34% in the days leading up to the Nov. 4 election.

- Poll shows Cuomo’s significant support surge among Hispanic and independent voters.
- Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa’s supporters are crucial for Cuomo’s victory chances.
Andrew Cuomo has halved the commanding lead held by Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani in the NYC mayor’s race, according to an updated Suffolk University poll.
Cuomo, an independent, now trails Mamdani by 10 points compared to over 20 in September. Mamdani leads 44% to 34% as the Nov. 4 election nears. Curtis Sliwa, the Republican nominee, is holding steady in third at 11%.
Previous Mayor, Eric Adams, has since dropped out and is now endorsing Cuomo. His supporters are now predominantly backing Cuomo, says poll director David Paleologos.
Mamdani‘s lead adds suspense to the mayoral race for America’s most populous city. Cuomo’s momentum could see a swing in Sliwa voters, potentially tipping the balance in his favor.
Cuomo’s Big Gains Among Hispanic and Independent Voters, Poll Shows
Cuomo has made dramatic inroads with Hispanic voters, leading Mamdani by 1 point, a significant shift from trailing by 30 points in September.
“Maybe they are leaning toward the more moderate candidate with more government experience,” Paleologos speculated on Cuomo’s Hispanic support.
Cuomo’s Camp Believes Momentum Is on Their Side
“This is a two-man race, momentum is on our side,” Cuomo’s spokesman, Rich Azzopardi, said of the poll results. “Andrew Cuomo will not stop fighting for every vote in every corner of this great city between now and Election Day.”
Pollster Says Mamdani is Still in Position to Win
Despite Cuomo’s gains, Mamdani is still within reach of victory, according to Paleologos. He said Mamdani is close to the percentage of votes needed to win, despite his slowed growth.
