Bidens Celebrate Progress, Pledge Continuity in Boosting Women’s Health Research

TL/DR –

President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden have celebrated progress in their initiative to improve research into women’s health, pledging continued support, with the pair due to leave the White House soon. The comments were made at the first-ever Conference on Women’s Health Research, a part of efforts to bridge the knowledge gap between men’s and women’s health in the medical field. The Bidens noted that they have so far mobilized nearly $1 billion to address research inequities since the initiative’s launch.

President, First Lady Celebrate Progress in Women’s Health Research

President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden recently highlighted advancements in their initiative to boost women’s health research, pledging to continue the fight with less than six weeks left in the White House. This initiative has secured nearly $1 billion to address inequities since its official launch last year.

First-Ever Conference on Women’s Health Research

The Bidens wrapped up the White House’s inaugural Conference on Women’s Health Research, which featured two panel discussions and remarks from other officials. The event is part of the administration’s efforts to bridge the knowledge gap in men’s and women’s health.

A report by the World Economic Forum released earlier this year found that, despite living longer on average, women spend 25% more of their lives in poor health than men.

Lack of Funding for Women’s Health Research

“The United States leads the world in health research, yet women’s health remains under-studied and underfunded,” noted the first lady on Wednesday. She emphasized the need to increase funding for research on how menopause affects heart disease, the leading cause of death for women.

Expanding Women’s Health Research

Since the initiative’s launch, the first lady has traveled the country and participated in events abroad to raise awareness. The aim, as President Biden put it, is to “fundamentally change and improve how we approach and invest in women’s health research.” To that effect, the president signed an executive order earlier this year to enhance funding opportunities and strengthen data collection for women’s health research.
