Cynthia Nixon’s wife, Christine Marinoni, reportedly joined New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s administration as the chief of mass engagement at the Family and Community Empowerment office in the Department of Education. However, there are claims that this is a reward for Nixon endorsing Mamdani during last year’s mayoral primary, which Nixon denied. Marinoni will reportedly earn $203,500 annually and previously worked under former NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio’s administration.
Christine Marinoni Joins NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s Administration
Cynthia Nixon‘s spouse, Christine Marinoni, has joined New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani‘s team as Chief of Mass Engagement at the Family and Community Empowerment office, reports The New York Post.
The hiring is seen as a reward for Nixon’s endorsement during Mamdani’s mayoral campaign. Nixon, however, denied that Marinoni’s position was politically motivated.
Prior to this role, Marinoni, who’s set to earn $203,500 annually, worked under former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio. Nixon and Marinoni, married in 2012, have been active in NYC politics, with Nixon challenging ex-governor Andrew Cuomo in the 2018 Democratic primary. Nixon is a known Mamdani supporter, openly endorsing him during the 2025 primary.
Mamdani’s decision to hire Marinoni, a co-founder of the Alliance for Quality Education in New York, was commended by a Department of Education spokesperson, citing her experience and dedication in public service.
Despite this, a City Hall source expressed disappointment with the hire to The Post, criticizing the alleged favoritism towards celebrities’ spouses.
Mentioning her relationship with Marinoni, Nixon opened up about her sexuality in a 2020 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, discussing her journey of coming out.
The couple announced their relationship in 2004 and have been together ever since, with Nixon celebrating their 14-year anniversary earlier this year on Instagram. The NYC Department of Education has yet to comment on Marinoni’s recent appointment.
