Exploring America’s Restrictive Immigration Policies: A Historical Analysis

TL/DR –

The U.S. immigration system is said to be “extremely restrictive” and is designed to exclude majority of potential immigrants, according to David Bier, an author and immigration policy analyst at the Cato Institute. The last attempt to pass a comprehensive immigration bill was over a decade ago, which failed; subsequently, in 2024, a bipartisan border security bill was also scuttled. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points. A 2018 Minnesota Poll found that 52% disapproved and 42% endorsed.
