MAGA Republicans Display High Support for Potential U.S. Action in Venezuela

TL/DR –

MAGA Republicans are more supportive of potential US military action in Venezuela compared to non-MAGA Republicans, according to recent polls. Most Republicans believe that military action would decrease drugs entering the US, with this view especially prevalent among MAGA supporters. However, the majority of MAGA Republicans say they are not viewing Venezuela as a major threat.

In a recent poll on the US potential military action in Venezuela, it was noted that President Trump’s GOP base, particularly MAGA Republicans, showed strong support for possible action.

MAGA Republicans have been notably supportive of Mr. Trump’s foreign policy decisions. For example, more than 90% of MAGA Republicans supported the US strikes on Iran in June. However, most of these Republicans, as with the general public, feel the president needs to justify military action in Venezuela.

They might perceive action as beneficial to the US, influenced by the administration’s arguments around the situation. Republicans believe military action would decrease drugs entering the US, a sentiment especially prevalent among MAGA Republicans.

However, not many MAGA Republicans see Venezuela as a significant threat, which aligns with the broader American perspective.

From an ideological viewpoint, Republicans, including MAGA, see the “America First” policy approach as promoting US interests in international affairs rather than complete non-involvement.

Despite this, international and foreign policy are not the primary evaluation criteria for the president among Republicans. For MAGA Republicans, immigration and deportation are the most critical issues, with twice as many prioritizing them over the economy and inflation. Trump’s handling of immigration has a 97% approval rate among this group.

This analysis is based on a CBS News/YouGov survey conducted with a nationally representative sample of 2,489 U.S. adults interviewed between November 19-21, 2025. The margin of error is ±2.4 points.
