TL/DR –
Elon Musk, the world’s wealthiest person, frequently posts politically charged content on his social media platform. His posts often revolve around perceived threats to Western civilization and controversial political ideas, with a specific interest in crime, immigration, and race. Musk’s posts are seen as a way for him to maintain political influence and reflect the topics that he tends to focus on while away from his business ventures such as Tesla.
Elon Musk’s Controversial Online Presence
Elon Musk, the globe’s richest individual, is causing a stir with controversial posts on social media. He recently voiced his views on immigration in Britain, violent crime in Minnesota and South Carolina, and judges in California and New York he deems too lenient. Musk’s online activity indicates he is maintaining his political influence, potentially gearing up for involvement in the 2026 elections.
During a one-month period, NBC News tracked and analysed Musk’s posts, revealing extreme views such as the antisemitic “great replacement” theory. This follows Musk’s controversial stance two years ago that sparked a backlash among advertisers. Despite later claiming he was aspirationally Jewish, Musk continues to share the conspiracy theory.
Meanwhile, Musk’s online influence raises questions about his potential involvement in future political campaigns. Musk, a political science professor at the University of California, San Diego, suggests that regardless of his links to Trump or Democrats, his online activities can potentially capture votes.
Interestingly, about 41% of his social media posts during the same time period were about his enterprises. The most frequent business topic was his AI startup, xAI, featured in 21% of his posts. He also discussed automaker Tesla and rocket company SpaceX regularly.
His post content provides a real-time view into the mind of one of the world’s richest and influential individuals, whose companies significantly impact government contracts and the stock market. Recently, Musk claimed Mars as a legal territory of the United States, a topic not commonly talked about among average people.
Moreover, Musk has shifted towards right-wing politics in recent years. During the last campaign, he supported Trump, appeared in key swing states, and contributed more than $290 million to Republican efforts.
Despite a turbulent stint in government under the Trump administration, Musk continues to use social media to share his thoughts. He frequently posts about crime, immigration, and judges while also criticising politicians worldwide for their stance on immigration.
Experts like Professor Joan Donovan suggest that Musk’s constant posts about the decline of Western civilisation are a veiled reference to racial politics. Donovan asserts that Musk’s content is akin to the kind found in the internet’s darkest corners, reflecting the surging racist rhetoric in the open.
Musk often portrays Black people in a negative light, particularly when discussing crime. He also targets the news media, civil rights organisations, Hollywood, and numerous individuals who identify as transgender.
As Musk continues to wield influence through his social media presence, his posts are certainly worth analysing for insights into his political leanings and potential future moves.
