TL/DR –
During the U.S. government shutdown, TMZ has been tracking the whereabouts of politicians. Notable figures such as Senator Lindsey Graham and Senator Cory Booker have been seen vacationing or engaging in leisurely activities. TMZ’s founder, Harvey Levin, argues this is “insulting our intelligence” and encourages viewers to send in tips if seen.
Amid the ongoing government shutdown with no resolution in sight, TMZ reports on the vacations of several politicians, raising public ire.
Following a Feb 14 shutdown of Department of Homeland Security agencies over political disagreements, TMZ began documenting government officials’ activities nationwide amidst widespread airport delays.
Among the most notable, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) was seen at Disney World March 27-29, despite claiming to have been attending a meeting in South Florida.
In the latest from TMZ, Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and wife, Alexis Lewis, were spotted at a West Hollywood restaurant on April 2 post-workout. Booker is reportedly staying at the hotel ahead of his April 3 book tour in Santa Monica.
Rep. John James (R-Mich.) was photographed in Turks and Caicos on April 1, supposedly on a family vacation.
TMZ also obtained photos of Congress members on an alleged taxpayer-funded Scotland trip, with a stop at Edinburgh Castle.
Those identified include Reps. John McGuire (R-Va.), Derrick Van Orden (R-Wis.), David Rouzer (R-N.C.), Claudia Tenney (R-N.Y.), Jason Smith (R-Mo.) and Bill Huizenga (R-Mich.).
“It’s not ‘the other party’, it’s both parties,” TMZ founder Harvey Levin stated in a clip aired by CNN. Levin encourages viewers to send TMZ any images of vacationing senators amid the crisis, adding “we’re tired of how they are patronizing us.”
TMZ has also published images of various other travelling politicians.
