The Future of HR: AI Transformation
You must have heard by now that large companies are racing to implement AI to gain a competitive edge. A new study reveals the expectations of businesses from their HR departments in this AI transformation journey.
AI in HR: Talent Acquisition, Employee Relations, and Performance Management
About 60% of businesses with over 5,000 employees believe that AI will greatly impact talent acquisition within the next 12 months, according to fresh data from Mercer. This is followed by 50% of businesses that expect their employee relations to be most affected by AI, with 40% predicting the biggest change will occur in performance management.
HR Tasks Automation with AI
As each HR job consists of various tasks, it’s easy for HR to consider how tools like AI could help automate certain processes, says Jason Averbook, global leader of HR strategy for Mercer.
However, for successful AI implementation, the new tech needs to be rolled out thoughtfully. This is why CHROs and people leaders are concerned about how to best educate their staff. There are some emerging trends in employee upskilling in the HR world.
AI Training in Big Businesses
Approximately 70% of big businesses providing AI training focus on teaching AI concepts and terminology, Mercer’s data reveals. In addition, 60% provide education on ethical considerations and responsible AI, 50% train employees to take a hands-on approach with the tech, and 30% teach how to use AI within specific business functions.
Focusing on the Technical Aspects of AI and Its Impact on Roles
Most companies are thinking about how to train employees on the technical aspects of AI, but there needs to be more clarity for all staff about how AI will transform their roles in the organization, adds Averbook.
“Businesses need to educate their employees about changes: ‘How will this change my job, how do I need to work differently, how to have an AI-first mindset?’,” he says. “The initial tech implementation comes from IT, then the continuous improvement comes from HR.”
