Biden, Harris urge top Democratic donors to stay engaged post Trump-loss

TL/DR –

US president Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris thanked Democratic donors who contributed record sums in the recent election loss to President-elect Donald Trump and urged them to remain politically engaged. Despite a decisive victory for Republicans who took the White House, Senate, and maintained control of the House, Biden encouraged the Democratic Party to recover quickly. Harris praised donors for their support and noted that the Democrats, their allied super PACs, and other groups raised about $2.9 billion, compared to about $1.8 billion for the Republicans, showing significant fundraising efforts.

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris applauded Democratic donors for their generous contributions in last month’s election and encouraged ongoing political engagement despite losses to President-elect Donald Trump.

In their speeches at the Democratic National Committee holiday reception, Biden, Harris, and their spouses rallied key donors who remain crucial for the Party’s recovery. The Republican Party secured a decisive victory in the election, winning the White House, Senate, and House, in a race that saw donors from all political affiliations spend around $4.7 billion.

“When you get knocked down, you just have to get up,” urged Biden, underscoring the resilience required in politics.

Harris, who assumed the role of the party’s presidential nominee after Biden’s exit, praised donors for their financial support and commitment to the Democratic cause. She drew attention to the significant $2.9 billion raised by Democrats and their allied super PACs, compared to the $1.8 billion accumulated by Republicans. Democrats alone, she noted, raised an impressive $700 million over the course of just 700 fundraising events.

Despite the disappointment of the election loss, Biden urged Democrats to take pride in their achievements. Mentioned were the administration’s $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill, the 2022 CHIPS and Science Act to boost US semiconductor manufacturing, and an increase in federal environmental spending through the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act.

“You not only contributed to the campaign, but you did something even more important. You lent your names, your reputation, your character to the effort,” Biden said.

Predicting Harris’s ongoing involvement in the party’s future, Biden confirmed his intention to be actively involved in party politics post-presidency.

“You’re not going anywhere kid. We aren’t letting you,” Biden told Harris.
