TL/DR –
This article contains two separate letters to the editor. The first, by Col Owens, reflects on the 80th anniversary of D-Day and draws comparisons between the young soldiers who fought then and the current generation’s struggle against totalitarianism. Owens encourages readers to actively participate in governance and most importantly, to vote, in order to honor the sacrifices made by previous generations and maintain a free society. The second letter, by Janet Hackman, reminds readers of the Inflation Reduction Act which provides tax credits and discounts for purchases of energy-efficient products, with a further eight years left to take advantage of these benefits.
Exercise Your Civic Duties
The 80th remembrance of D-Day stirs deep emotions, reminding us of the sacrifices made for freedom and democracy. Films like “Saving Private Ryan” deliver the stark reality of that day, leaving an indelible impression.
The heroism of those 18-20 year olds compels us to reflect on current global conflicts, including the Ukraine’s fight against a totalitarian aggressor. In our country, we find ourselves in a political conflict with a candidate who threatens our Constitution and democratic institutions.
Like the brave generation of the 1940’s, we too must resist forces threatening our freedom. Fortunately, our battleground isn’t a beach but our homes and communities. We have the opportunity to participate in governance, interact with officials, engage in debates, and most importantly, vote.
We have a responsibility to honor the sacrifices of the 1944 generation – and to ourselves and fellow citizens – by preserving our freedom.

The Inflation Reduction Act: A Saving Opportunity
The Inflation Reduction Act was passed two years ago and will remain in effect for another eight years. This legislation offers cost-saving opportunities on energy-efficient products like windows, air conditioners, heating units, clothes dryers, and many more.
Many of these products provide up-front discounts and tax credits. Additionally, incentives are available for insulation, electric wiring, induction stoves, electric vehicles (new and used), EV chargers, solar panels, and other energy-saving vehicles.
