Emma Jackson’s Success Story: From a Struggling Homeownership to a Savvy Money Blogger
Emma Jackson’s financial struggles in her early years didn’t stop her from buying her first home at age 25 and paying off the mortgage two years later. Despite her parents’ financial difficulties due to bad mortgage advice, Jackson started contributing to the household expenses as soon as she could, sparking her passion for financial management. “It completely changed the financial trajectory of my life,” she said.
From a Part-Time Job to a Successful Blog
At 17, Jackson, now 31, began saving part of her wages with the ultimate goal of affording a home. After earning a master’s degree in sociology, Jackson juggled part-time jobs, including working for a university and as an apprenticeship coach. However, her financial journey truly kicked off with the launch of her money advice blog, “Bee Money Savvy,” in 2017. She utilized the platform to share her financial wisdom and the various ways she saved and earned money, including participating in paid surveys and using cashback credit cards.
Turning a Blog into a Lucrative Side Hustle
Initially, Jackson had no idea that she could generate income from her blog. However, the website gradually started making money, generating £10,216 two years after its launch and £41,090 in 2024 alone, equivalent to around $55,380. Jackson’s expertise in money management also earned her the prestigious “Money Blogger of the Year” award at the British Bank Awards in 2024.
Becoming Mortgage-Free in Two Years
In 2019, at age 25, Jackson bought her first one-bedroom apartment in Sheffield, Yorkshire for £80,000. She managed to pay off her £44,000 mortgage within two years by overpaying in the first two years and making a bulk payment of £33,000 in 2021. Her secret? Working overtime, blogging, and practicing the money-saving tips she preached on her blog.
Diversifying Her Investments
After paying off her mortgage, Jackson began investing in shares and funds. Earlier this year, she purchased her second property, a two-bedroom apartment in Leeds, for £162,000. Blogging contributed significantly to the £65,000 deposit she required for this investment. As of now, Jackson generates roughly £5,000 a month from her full-time job, her blog, and the rent income from her first property.
