Most red states set to soon adopt climate plans

TL/DR –

Almost every US state will soon have a climate plan due to a program under President Joe Biden’s climate law. The Climate Pollution Reduction Grant program provided $3 million to states to create a climate plan, with only five governors declining the offer. States must submit their plans to EPA by the end of this week and can then apply for implementation grants ranging from $2 million to $500 million.

US States to Submit Climate Plans This Week Thanks to Biden’s Climate Law

By the end of this week, almost all U.S. states will present their climate plans due to a little-acknowledged program under President Joe Biden’s landmark climate legislation. Credited by experts and climate advocates as a crucial component of climate action, the Climate Pollution Reduction Grant has extended a $3 million offering to every state for devising their climate strategies. This incentive attracted all but five governors’ attention, injecting climate planning into state capitals that have typically displayed limited interest in decarbonization.

These climate proposals are due for submission with an impending Friday deadline. States are required to submit their strategies to the EPA, followed by an April deadline to apply for execution grants ranging from $2 million to $500 million. The program has also earmarked $300 million for tribes and territories through a separate proceeding.

These grants act as catalysts for states to innovate new policies that could serve as prototypes for other states or even the federal government to emulate in the future.
