Rep. Mike Kelly Profits from Act He Voted Against

TL/DR –

Congressman Mike Kelly, who opposed President Biden’s climate change legislation, used solar credits from the bill for his car dealership. His auto dealership received a $315,000 grant from the US Department of Agriculture to install a solar array, which will save his company over $23,000 per year. Despite his initial opposition, Kelly’s spokesperson confirmed the representative’s support for an all-of-the-above approach to energy policy after the grant was publicized.

Climate Change Critic Congressman Kelly Uses Solar Credits for Car Dealership

Despite his resistance to President Biden’s climate change legislation, Congressman Mike Kelly, R-Erie, took advantage of solar credits from the bill for his car dealership business. As reported by Erie-Times News, Kelly’s dealership received $315,000 in grant funding from the legislation to install solar panels.

The Mike Kelly Automotive Group will save over $23,000 annually by leveraging this solar array, despite Kelly’s vocal opposition to the Inflation Reduction Act. Kelly previously stated that this legislation would “increase taxes, worsen inflation, expand government, and hurt the middle class.”

However, following the Erie-Times News report, Kelly’s office expressed support for comprehensive energy policies. Kelly’s spokesman claimed that the congressman’s stance has always been in favor of diversified energy sources and that he has no direct role in his family business’s daily operations.

Fighting climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions are key goals of the Inflation Reduction Act that offers tax rebates and credits to encourage clean energy technologies adoption.

According to estimates by the Rocky Mountain Institute, Pennsylvania could gain up to $28 billion from the legislation by 2030 and create nearly 44,000 jobs.
