U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen Celebrates Historic Union Contract Wins in Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS, NV – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen, Vice President Kamala Harris, Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su, Nevada congressional delegates, and members of the Culinary Workers Union Local 226 came together to commemorate the new five-year contracts secured by Culinary with three major Las Vegas gaming companies.
These contracts represent a landmark victory for over 40,000 unionized hospitality workers, promising them pay increases amounting to nearly $2 billion in total compensation over the contract’s duration. This includes a first-year wage hike of 10 percent, culminating in a 32 percent increase over five years. During her speech, Rosen underscored the significance of unions for Nevada’s workforce and families, and voiced her support for the PRO Act and the call for a higher federal minimum wage.
“Unions play a crucial role in bolstering Nevada’s working families, strengthening our middle class, and facilitating the American Dream,” Rosen stated. “Every worker deserves quality pay, a safe working environment, and a stable retirement. I am here today to celebrate Culinary Workers Union’s groundbreaking achievements and new contracts, because one job should suffice.”
Rosen’s commitment to Nevada’s working class is well-documented. Last year, she was instrumental in introducing the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act, aimed at enhancing protections for workers’ unionization rights and negotiating power for superior wages, benefits, and work conditions. Her efforts have also contributed to the passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, theCHIPS and Science Act, and theInflation Reduction Act. These legislations have facilitated the creation of more high-paying union jobs in Nevada. Additionally, Rosen co-sponsored the FAMILY Act, which would ensure all workers receive twelve weeks of paid leave for parental, medical, or caregiving purposes. She has also advocated for a gradual increase of the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour.
