Trump’s ‘No Tax on Tips’ Policy Discussed by Rep. Erin Houchin and Business Owners

Trump’s “No Tax On Tips” Policy and Its Impact on the Working Class

Indiana Republican Representative Erin Houchin recently highlighted the potential benefits to the working class of President Donald Trump’s “No Tax on Tips” policy in a video released by the White House. The policy is part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, a comprehensive legislative package that aims to deliver on Trump’s sweeping second-term agenda.

One Big Beautiful Bill Act

The Act aims to fulfill many of Trump’s campaign promises, including extending his 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, tax cuts on Social Security benefits, and tax exemptions on tipped wages and overtime pay. At a meeting with small business owners Ron and Mary Kay Mattingly and waitress Peggy Weir at The Chicken House in Sellersburg, Indiana, Houchin discussed the potential benefits of the Act.

Benefits to the Working Class

“More money in our pocket every day when you go home. You earn it, you get to keep it. For a lot of us, it’s help paying down debt, helps saving, being on time on your bills. Just everyday things that some people don’t think about,” Weir shared her thoughts on the “No Tax on Tips” policy.

The Role of Rep. Erin Houchin

As part of her duties, Rep. Houchin led budget negotiations on Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” on three key committees, including the House Rules, Budget, and Energy and Commerce committees. The act was passed in the house by a single vote and is currently being debated in the Senate.

Senate’s Independent Bill

The Senate also passed a bill independently last month that introduces a new tax deduction of up to $25,000 for tips. However, there are some differences between this standalone bill and the version included in the House’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act. The House’s version does not include a cap on the tax deduction.

Looking Forward

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act and its “No Tax on Tips” policy reflect Trump’s commitment to support the middle class. “I think President Trump has a real feeling for the middle class, and I think he wholeheartedly feels that it helps,” said the owner of The Chicken House.
