After receiving no response at the door, officers entered the house. They were met by a witness who led them to the victims. This witness had barricaded themselves in a room during the shooting and called the police. The identity of the witness remains undisclosed at this time.
During a press conference, LAPD Capt. Kelly Muniz described the scene as ‘terrifying and horrific’, highlighting the importance of the surviving witness in shedding light on the tragic incident.
The suspect, an octogenarian, fatally shot his wife, also in her 80s, and their two adult children, both in their 40s. He was later found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a separate part of the house, as per the police.
A neighbor, shocked by the tragic events near his home, regretted never having the opportunity to meet the victims. The area near Lerdo Avenue remained cordoned off throughout the night as investigations are ongoing.
