Alex Gibney’s Jigsaw Productions and Anonymous Content to Develop Documentary on the Murder of Healthcare Executive Brian Thompson

Jigsaw Productions and Anonymous Content are collaborating on a documentary about the murder of US health insurance executive Brian Thompson, which has ignited a national healthcare debate. There is yet no information on whether Oscar-winning director Alex Gibney will be directing the project.

CEO of UnitedHealthcare, Thompson, was assassinated on December 4 in Manhattan. Luigi Mangione, five days later, was arrested and charged in connection with the murder. The perpetrator, found with a manifesto about the healthcare industry, is celebrated by some as a folk hero.

The documentary by Jigsaw and Anonymous will examine facets of the case, from the meticulously orchestrated crime to Mangione’s manifesto, his Ivy League background, and the public’s indifference towards the victim. Filmmaker Stephen Robert Morse is also reportedly working on a similar project.

Michael Moore, director of the 2007 health care documentary Sicko, joined the discussion following the murder. Moore, mentioned in Mangione’s manifesto, made clear in a website posting that while he condemns murder, he also condemns the corrupt healthcare industry and its CEOs.

The collaboration between Anonymous and Jigsaw on the Thompson project will be their third, following their current co-productions ‘Musk’, a project about Elon Musk, and ‘Orwell’, featuring writer George Orwell.
