TL/DR –
APS has made significant progress towards its goal of providing 100% clean, carbon-free electricity. This includes the recent launch of its largest solar power plant, the Agave Solar Plant, which can power 24,000 homes with its 150 megawatts of capacity. Alongside Agave and other renewable sources, APS also generates power via the Palo Verde Generating Station, the largest nuclear plant and clean energy resource in America, leading to more than half of APS’s energy portfolio being clean.
APS Progresses Towards 100% Clean, Carbon-Free Electricity
During the National Clean Energy Week, APS is advancing toward its goal of providing homes and businesses with electricity that is completely clean and carbon-free.
The largest solar power plant of APS, the Agave Solar Plant, located southwest of Phoenix, has been recently activated. With a capacity of 150 megawatts, this power plant is a significant contribution to the APS electric system.
The Agave Solar Plant’s capacity is capable of powering approximately 24,000 homes.
APS President Ted Geisler, in a recent press release, stated, “With 400,000 panels tracking the sun across the sky, Agave Solar Plant is a new resource in our energy mix. When combined with other renewable sources and Palo Verde Generating Station, APS’s energy supply is already more than 50% clean.”
The Palo Verde Generating Station, a nuclear power plant situated about 50 miles west of Phoenix, delivers 100% carbon-free electricity around the clock. It powers four million homes and businesses across the Southwest region, according to APS officials.
Currently, APS serves approximately 1.4 million homes and businesses across 11 of Arizona’s 15 counties.
