Asheville Citizens’ Mixed Reactions Post-Presidential Debate

Following the presidential debate between former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden on June 27, numerous Asheville residents expressed mixed feelings. Despite the debate not living up to expectations for many, it didn’t deter them from choosing their preferred candidate.

An Asheville citizen named Laurie stated that despite last night’s debate outcome not being as she’d hoped, she remains supportive of President Biden, believing in his potential to steer the country effectively.

“We’d be electing a ‘mafia boss’ if Trump were re-elected as president,” said Laurie. “Biden, although not at his best last night, still has the ability to lead. I’d rather have him than Trump, who repeatedly attacked others.”

On the other hand, Trump’s loyalists were satisfied with his performance, praising his rebuttals against Biden’s arguments. William Simmons, a resident, firmly supports Trump, stating that the debate played out in Trump’s favor.

“Trump dominated the debate. We need a leader who treats the country like a business and presents us as strong, not an embarrassment. I’ll be voting for Trump,” Simmons commented.

Despite these polarized views, many residents voiced their struggles with deciding between the two candidates. Some plan to vote for Biden but harbor concerns about his suitability for the presidency, while others fear that reinstating Trump would harm the nation.
