Ammunition Explosion After Fiery Crash Shuts Down I-93 in Bow
A fiery crash on Saturday afternoon led to the explosion of several hundred rounds of ammunition, causing the closure of I-93 in Bow. New Hampshire State Police report that three occupants escaped from the vehicle, with one hospitalized for serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The incident transpired north of the Hooksett Rest Area near mile marker 32.2. Police responded to a report of a vehicle operating erratically before the crash. The vehicle struck the center median, ricocheted across all lanes, collided with another vehicle, and finally crashed into the woods where it caught fire. The passenger of the second vehicle remained unharmed.
The northbound side of I-93 was closed as the fire escalated and ammunition in the vehicle started exploding. Upon arrival, firefighters contained the fire, allowing reopening of the southbound side. However, two lanes on the northbound side remained closed for some time. The highway was fully reopened by 4:40 p.m.
One of the vehicle’s occupants was arrested on multiple warrants, with potential for more charges pending investigation outcome. Multiple Good Samaritans and witnesses assisted at the scene.
