Assault Incident at Jasper Ridge Campground

Officers from the Ishpeming Police Department in Michigan were summoned to the Jasper Ridge Campground for a possible felonious assault involving a firearm on Thursday morning.

The incident reportedly occurred on a trail leading from the campground towards the Ishpeming Cemetery, near the long-abandoned Ishpeming Fish Hatchery.

Two subjects, a male and a female, allegedly confronted a hiker about trespassing, during which the male brandished a firearm. The incident wasn’t reported immediately, causing a delay in the police response.

Efforts to contact the subjects at the hatchery were futile, leading to a search warrant’s procurement. Officers conducted a thorough search of the fenced property and discovered firearms in the deserted hatchery building. However, the subjects weren’t found.

The confiscated guns are in police custody. The authorities are now seeking help to identify the culprits believed to be occupying the old Fish Hatchery. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Ishpeming Police Department directly, or Central Dispatch via 911 or their non-emergency number.

While the investigation continues, the authorities have reassured that there is no immediate threat to the community and the identities of the possible subjects will not be disclosed at this stage.

During the investigation, the Ishpeming Police Department received support from the Negaunee Police Department, Michigan State Police, Michigan State Police K9 Unit, Michigan State Police Emergency Response Team, and the Marquette County Search and Rescue team.
