Vice President Kamala Harris Advocates for Abortion Rights in Arizona
Vice President Kamala Harris spoke out against Donald Trump’s stance on abortion rights on Monday, marking the second anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade. Harris, along with actor Francia Raisa and Arizona Corporation Commissioner Anna Tovar, discussed the impact of this decision on Latino communities and other issues such as immigration and democracy.
The event, which was Harris’ third Arizona trip focusing on reproductive rights, assembled around 400 people at Warehouse215 in downtown Phoenix. The vice president criticized Trump as the root cause of the reproductive-rights turmoil, stating that he selected three Supreme Court justices with the intention of undoing Roe v. Wade’s protections.

The Trump campaign and national Republicans have labeled President Joe Biden and Harris as “radical extremists” on abortion, accusing them of fear mongering while deflecting the blame for policies harming women. However, the Biden administration continues to push on the issue of abortion rights in Arizona and across the country.
Interior Secretary Deb Haaland and Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra have also made reproductive rights a focus during their campaign visits in Arizona. The vice president has so far held more than 85 events on abortion rights across the country, according to the Biden campaign.
Harris highlighted abortion rights victories in Kansas, Ohio, and Virginia, as a result of the American people voting for freedom. She also expressed hope for a proposition to enshrine abortion rights in the Arizona Constitution to make it to the Nov. 5 statewide ballot.
The Biden administration is preparing for a tough battle in the upcoming presidential election against Trump, who won the state in 2016 over Democrat Hillary Clinton. Yet, Harris remains optimistic about the chances of Biden and U.S. Rep. Ruben Gallego, the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in Arizona.
Despite the absence of top Arizona Democrats Gov. Katie Hobbs and Attorney General Kris Mayes, Harris received a warm welcome from the attendees of the event. They appreciated her active involvement in Arizona as the presidential election draws closer.
“Arizona is going to make a difference,” said Phoenix resident Anna Battle, who attended the vice president’s campaign event.
