TL/DR –
U.S. Senate candidate Kari Lake has criticized government data during a televised interview, refused to acknowledge her 2022 gubernatorial loss, and attacked her Democratic challenger Ruben Gallego. Lake argued for the need to remove millions of individuals who entered the country illegally during the Biden administration and expressed concern over the impact of inflation. Furthermore, Lake accused Gallego of being a “hothead” who made female co-workers uncomfortable in the past, an accusation Gallego’s campaign spokesperson dismissed as an example of why Lake is unfit for office.
Kari Lake Challenges Government Data Integrity in Tense Interview
U.S. Senate candidate Kari Lake challenged the integrity of government data and refused to acknowledge her 2022 gubernatorial loss in a recent televised interview. She also criticized her Democratic opponent, Ruben Gallego, characterizing him as a problematic employee from years ago.
During her appearance on Arizona PBS’ “Horizon,” Lake took issue with host Ted Simons’ questions. When Simons referenced data indicating a robust economy, Lake sarcastically suggested he should work for Kamala Harris after retirement.
Lake attended the show solo after Gallego, a five-term Congress member, declined to join for a potential debate. The candidates are set to have their only debate of the election season on Wednesday, hosted by the nonpartisan Citizens Clean Elections Commission.
Lake emphasized key themes of her campaign, including the need to deport millions of illegal immigrants who entered the country during the Biden administration and the impact of inflation on the nation. She also addressed the issue of abortion rights, asserting that Arizona voters will decide the state’s law with a November ballot measure.
Lake accused Gallego of being a “hothead” and making female co-workers uncomfortable during his time in Phoenix. Gallego’s spokesperson, Hannah Goss, responded by saying Lake’s comments highlight why she is unfit for office.
Lake remained unconcerned about the costs of deporting millions of illegal immigrants, calling it an invasion of the country. When asked about the 2022 election, Lake avoided directly addressing whether she believes it was stolen, instead pointing to issues with the state’s voter rolls.
Lake also criticized Gallego for his involvement in a failed bank project aimed at helping the immigrant community. She falsely accused Gallego of defrauding people of their life savings. The man behind the bank project, Joseph Carrillo, has stated it was his fault the business failed.
Lake argued that Gallego was also involved in fraud and misconduct during his work for Southwest Ambulance, which was later investigated for fraud. She mentioned an incident where Gallego allegedly harassed a female intern. Gallego has said the incident was investigated, and he was cleared of harassment.
In the interview, Lake expressed her belief that she could bring needed change to the Senate as a non-career politician and said she could work with Democrats on Capitol Hill.
