TL/DR –
Kari Lake, a U.S. Senate candidate, claimed that 80% of people and God support her campaign, despite polls showing her lagging behind Democrat Ruben Gallego. Lake, who has been behind in every poll of Arizona voters for months, is believed to be either delusional or being deceptive to convince Republican committees and donors not to dismiss Arizona. Despite Lake’s claims of God’s support, the race has been changed from a toss-up to “leans Democratic” by the Crystal Ball, a political handicapper.
Kari Lake’s U.S. Senate Campaign Claims High Support Despite Polls
Despite trailing Democrat Ruben Gallego in every poll, Senate candidate Kari Lake claimed on Monday that 80% of the people and God support her campaign. She made these remarks while talking to guest host Ben Harwell on Steve Bannon’s War Room podcast.
“The fake news talks about us divided. They need us fighting each other for their message to resonate. However, once you realize that we’re united, I believe 75, 80% of the people are with us,” she stated.
The Real Polls Show Lake Trailing Gallego
Contrary to Lake’s claims, polling tracker 538 shows Lake behind in every poll of Arizona voters for months. Some polls show her close to the margin of error, while others have her trailing by as much as 13 points.
A CBS News/YouGov poll in May showed Donald Trump at 52% in Arizona, while only 36% said they’d vote for Lake. Gallego drew 49%. The numbers led handicapper Larry Sabato’s Crystal Ball to change its race rating from toss-up to “leans Democratic” in April.
Despite Poll Numbers, Lake Claims Divine Support
Lake not only believes she’s ahead in polls but also claims divine support for her campaign. “I have absolute faith that God placed us here for this moment,” she told Harwell. It remains to be seen whether this faith will translate into votes in the upcoming elections.
