Kari Lake’s Senate Ad Targets Biden, Gallego on Border Issues

TL/DR –

U.S. Senate candidate Kari Lake has started airing a TV ad criticizing President Joe Biden’s border policies and her Democratic opponent Ruben Gallego. The ad, which cost an estimated $136,000, has been slated to run on broadcast, cable TV, and digital platforms. The TV ad marks the first significant broadcast spending by Lake since January, and it was equally paid for by the National Republican Senatorial Committee, which plans to spend at least $10 million through the fall.

U.S. Senate Candidate Kari Lake Airs New TV Ad Criticizing Border Policies

Kari Lake, U.S. Senate candidate, launched a TV ad in partnership with Senate Republicans on Monday, blaming the “invasion” at the border on President Joe Biden and Democratic challenger Ruben Gallego. The 30-second ad, entitled “Big Differences,” focuses on concerns about the border and complaints about Biden.

The ad was purchased for an estimated $136,000, according to AdImpact, a media-tracking firm, and will air on broadcast, cable TV, and digital platforms. The spending disparities in Arizona’s U.S. Senate campaigns are evident.

Lake accuses Gallego of supporting sanctuary cities, permitting illegal immigrants to vote, and opposing the border wall. She promises to prioritize border security if elected as Arizona’s next U.S. Senator. Gallego’s campaign responded by dismissing the ad and highlighting his support for a bipartisan border security bill that Lake rejected.

Lake’s ad campaign is supported by the National Republican Senatorial Committee as part of at least $10 million in planned spending through the fall. This comes after Gallego reserved $19 million for the fall, the largest sum of any Senate candidate this year, as reported by the New York Times.

Gallego, Lake, and Republican Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb are all running for the Senate seat being vacated by U.S. Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, I-Ariz. Financial status varies among the candidates as they enter April, the latest campaign financial records reveal.

Gallego entered April with $9.6 million in cash, Lake had $2.5 million and $452,000 in debt, and Lamb had $254,000 and $117,000 in debt. Lake’s campaign continues to face financial struggles despite the backing of Mitch McConnell’s allies.

One Nation, a McConnell-aligned group, has pledged $70 million to five Senate races across the country, excluding Arizona. Instead, One Nation is focusing on Michigan, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. The exclusion of Arizona suggests McConnell does not currently see the state as a top contender for the GOP.
