Kognisjon Bryggeri Brewery Launches K-Point Red Ale in Honor of U.P. Skiing History

Visitors at Kognisjon Bryggeri Brewery can now toast the storied skiing heritage of the Upper Peninsula (U.P.) with a new ale. The K-Point Red Ale, a salutatory beverage to the U.P.’s rich ski jumping tradition, has been crafted together with the Ishpeming Ski Club to celebrate their 137th Annual Ski Jumping Tournament.

The Ishpeming Ski Club reported that the ale’s debut at Kognisjon in Marquette was a resounding success. Each year, the celebrated ski jumping event attracts people from all over the country. The event, and the ale brewed in its honor, share the common goal of promoting skiing among youngsters and preserving the past, present, and future of ski jumping.

The inaugural K-point beer also recognizes ski-jumper Tom Sodergren, a dedicated volunteer with the Ishpeming Ski Club. “This special brew pays tribute to Tom ‘Sodapop’ Sodergren’s unwavering passion for the sport and his pivotal role in preserving ski jumping for future generations,” stated ISC Vice President Peter Copenhaver.

As described on Kognisjon’s Facebook page, K-POINT is a seasonal classic red ale. “It features a deep malty base made with different levels of crystal malts and a toasty malt for cohesion. The ale is hopped with East Kent Golding and fermented with a Norwegian kveik strain, bringing a Nordic quality to the beer.”

K-Point Red Ale six-packs are available at select Marquette stores, while stocks last. The ale is also expected to be served at the Ishpeming Ski Jumping Tournament from Jan. 19-21.
