TL/DR –

Phoenix’s Camelback Road restaurant Southern Rail announced a sudden closure in late December, with plans for a new restaurant, Tesota, under local chef and restaurateur Doug Robson. Southern Rail Restaurant Closes, Making Way for New Concept, Tesota

In December, Southern Rail on Camelback Road announced its closure prior to the Christmas holiday. The owners, including Chef Justin Beckett, revealed that the restaurant was sold. The space will soon host celebrated Chef Doug Robson’s new restaurant, Tesota.

Exploring a Different Cuisine with Tesota

Robson, known for his Mexican restaurants Gallo Blanco, Otro Cafe, and Otro Cafecito, plans to break away from his regular genre with Tesota. Trained at the Scottsdale Culinary Institute, Robson aims to explore global cuisines while maintaining an atmosphere of fun and comfort.

What Can Customers Expect at Tesota?

The menu will include a variety of international dishes, while locally sourcing ingredients. The beverage list will feature Arizona wines, cocktails with fresh juice, and other non-alcoholic options. Robson hints at comfort food staples with a playful twist, like pate or small personal pizzas, offering customers a unique dining experience.

International Cuisine with Arizona Roots

Tesota will incorporate elements of the previous tenant, Southern Rail, including a pizza oven and wine cellar. Minimal remodeling is planned, mainly adding new kitchen equipment. The opening is set for May with Ashli Galbreath and Chef Jared Porter heading the front of the house and kitchen, respectively. The restaurant name, meaning ironwood in Spanish, signifies a hearty desert tree, aligning with Robson’s vision of nourishing the community.

Tesota Restaurant Details

Tesota is set to open in May at 300 Camelback Road.
