A turbulent scene emerged outside Skyline High School in Oakland following reports of a shooting during a graduation ceremony.

A distraught woman shared her experience of hearing two bangs and witnessing people fleeing. “I don’t think those were fireworks,” she said. She saw a group of men shooting and lamented, “For a high school graduation to end like this is horrible.”

Kyle Jackson, another witness, was filming when he heard gunshots and saw people scrambling for safety. “It’s clearly unfortunate, especially on a day like this. For the students who graduated, this should have been the happiest day of their lives. I just hope they can move past it,” he said.

Graduate Mohamed Sulaiman praised the school’s handling of the situation, escorting students and families to safety. Despite the incident, Mohamed remained grateful for his graduation day but expressed sadness over hearing a woman had been injured in the shooting.

The chaotic scene, filled with police cars and emergency vehicles, seemed surreal against the backdrop of graduation celebrations. A sign that read “we have amazing educators” hung on a fence at the school once attended by actor Tom Hanks. Paramedics were seen moving an apparent injured person into an ambulance.
