TL/DR –
New York health insurance company, Taro Health, is expanding its services to Oklahoma, partnering with over 40 local direct primary care providers. The company’s model combines traditional health coverage with access to direct primary care, offering unlimited free direct primary care and mental health visits, along with insurance coverage for specialists, hospitals, and emergency care. The plan is targeting people who don’t receive coverage from an employer or other source, such as those who are self-employed or work at small businesses, and is coming at a time when many Oklahomans are losing their access to SoonerCare.
Oklahoma Residents to Gain Access to Innovative Health Insurance from Taro Health
Residents of Oklahoma, Cleveland, and Canadian counties are set to benefit from a new insurance policy, combining traditional health coverage and direct primary care. The New York-based health insurance company Taro Health is extending its services to Oklahoma, in collaboration with local direct primary care providers.
Direct primary care operates on a model where patients pay their physician or practice directly through monthly or annual fees in addition to their insurance. This approach affords patients more time with physicians and helps prevent unnecessary urgent care and emergency room visits.
Taro Health is simplifying this model by offering insurance through the Affordable Care Act Marketplace, along with free and unlimited access to virtual or in-person direct primary care and mental health visits. The plan targets individuals not receiving coverage from an employer or other source, including self-employed individuals and small businesses. It offers benefits like same- or next-day provider access, communication with providers through text, and longer appointment times.
Taro Health’s pricing is competitive, and Oklahomans may be eligible for a federal subsidy to significantly reduce their premiums. The move comes as many Oklahomans are losing access to SoonerCare due to resumed eligibility reviews and member disenrollments post-COVID-19 pandemic.
Kyle Rickner, founder of Primary Health Partners, believes the collaboration with Taro Health will provide more Oklahomans with an affordable health insurance option rooted in direct primary care.
Oklahomans interested in Taro Health can sign up on their website or via the Affordable Care Act Marketplace, with open enrollment running from Nov. 1 to Jan. 15.
