Beaucatcher Mountain Rainbow Paint Vandalism Incident

Less than a month after rainbow paint was discovered on rocks near Beaucatcher Mountain’s open cut on the I-240, a second rainbow-coloured display has surfaced on a house in the vicinity. The colourful spectacle on Orchard Street came to light through social media posts around the week of June 10, featuring a rainbow that began at the chimney top, twirled down the roof, and spanned the front of what appears to be an unoccupied house.

In response to queries, the Asheville Police Department confirmed awareness of the rainbow-painted building, but stated that no legal action has been initiated by the property owners.

The police further added that they had responded to another vandalism report on May 14, at approximately 4:26 p.m., concerning individuals applying paint on the rocks near the open cut of Beaucatcher Mountain’s I-240, owned by the North Carolina Department of Transportation. Despite ongoing investigations, there haven’t been any arrests so far.

Stephen Westervelt submitted photos and videos to the local news channel, revealing streams of red, orange, green, purple, yellow, and blue paint pouring from the rock face’s peak, almost reaching the base.

The Asheville Police Department encourages anyone with information about these incidents, to contact them at 828-252-1110. Anonymous tips can be sent using the TIP2APD smartphone app (search “Asheville PD” in the app store) or by texting TIP2APD to 847411.
