SNAP Participants Get Greater Milk Discounts at Meijer

TL/DR –

Meijer, a supercenter chain in the US, has doubled the milk discount it offers to participants in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), providing them with a 40% discount on any brand or size of 1% or fat-free milk. The discount applies to purchases made online and in physical stores and will remain in effect until fall 2026. Meijer began offering this discount in December 2023 as part of the “Add Milk” initiative, funded by a grant from Auburn University’s Hunger Solutions Institute, with the aim of promoting milk as a healthy part of a diet.

Meijer Doubles Milk Discount for SNAP Participants

Eligible participants in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) can now enjoy a doubled discount on milk at Meijer. This offer allows SNAP participants to receive 40 percent off any brand and size of 1 percent or fat-free milk.

The discount is valid for online and in-store purchases at Meijer supercenters, neighborhood markets, and Express locations until fall 2026. SNAP, part of the USDA Food and Nutrition Service, requires applicants to meet certain income and resource limits and apply within their resident state. Detailed application instructions can be found on its website.

Qualified individuals will receive SNAP benefits via an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card, functioning like a debit card. These benefits are automatically loaded into the participants’ accounts each month and can be used to purchase groceries at authorized food stores and retailers.

Since December 2023, Meijer has been offering a 20 percent milk discount as part of the “Add Milk” initiative. According to Meijer’s announcement, this initiative is propelled by a grant from Auburn University’s Hunger Solutions Institute.

Meijer’s collaboration with Auburn University aims to promote milk as a healthy dietary inclusion under Healthy Fluid Milk Incentives (HFMI) projects. As a family-owned company, Meijer is committed to providing nutritionally valuable products at affordable prices for SNAP recipients.

On June 28, Meijer celebrated the increased discount with Senator Debbie Stabenow and reps of the Michigan Milk Producers Association, the International Dairy Foods Association, and Auburn University’s Hunger Solutions Institute.

Meijer also provides a 10 percent discount on qualifying produce for SNAP customers and allows SNAP benefits to be used on the Meijer app. Free home delivery for SNAP purchases is also available.
