Virginia SCC Reports Increased Health Insurance Enrollments
The Virginia SCC has reported a 14% increase in health insurance enrollments on Virginia’s Insurance Marketplace during the first open enrollment period.
Over 400,000 Virginians secured health care coverage through Virginia’s Insurance Marketplace from Nov. 1, 2023, to Jan. 16, 2024, demonstrating the marketplace’s effectiveness in providing suitable healthcare plans for its residents.
Keven Patchett, director of the Virginia Health Benefit Exchange, expressed satisfaction with the marketplace’s success, stating, “From the beginning, our goal was to create a marketplace that was easy to use and connected Virginians and their families to health care coverage they can depend on”.
The marketplace replaced HealthCare.gov and provides resources to search for affordable healthcare coverage. All insurance plans offered include free preventative services, guaranteed coverage for preexisting conditions, and covers the 10 essential health benefits required by law.
After the open enrollment period, Virginians experiencing a Qualifying Life Event may enroll from Jan. 17 to Oct. 31 during the special enrollment period. The next open enrollment period is scheduled from Nov. 1, 2024, to Jan. 15, 2025.
