Advisers from CoE, Michigan Medicine, LSA Receive Prestigious Awards
The U-M Advising Council has acknowledged the exceptional academic advising efforts of Michelle Sonderman from the College of Engineering and Samantha Wilhelmi of the Medical School. The established ACUM Outstanding Advising Award honors faculty and staff advisers from any campus school or college.
Valeria Bertacco, Vice Provost for engaged learning, commends the ACUM award recipients and nominees, emphasizing their significant influence on student growth and well-being.
Sonderman, who advises the College of Engineering’s Department of Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences, was praised for her supportive feedback and fostering a welcoming environment. Students, like Geneve Magnan, appreciate her willingness to help when they are overwhelmed.
Wilhelmi, a program manager for the Cancer Biology Program at Michigan Medicine, is recognized for her unwavering commitment to student well-being and academic success. Drew Stark, a graduate student in the program, praised her for providing essential information and guidance for his future in graduate school.
LSA announced its advising award recipients as well:

- Lynn Carpenter, lecturer IV in ecology and evolutionary biology and in molecular, cellular and developmental biology in LSA, recipient of the Excellence in Departmental Advising Award.
- Lauren Eddelbuettel, undergraduate program coordinator and major/minor adviser, for the Department of Sociology in LSA, recipient of the Unsung Champion of Advising Award.
