Following the closure of Piccolo Virtù in Old Town Scottsdale, Chef Gio Osso hinted at an upcoming dining concept. Details have finally emerged about the new establishment set to occupy the vacant space.
Bernie Kantak, a fellow restaurateur, chef, and James Beard Award semifinalist, plans to launch an all-day dining venue in the space come February. The announcement comes alongside a press release that unveiled the new restaurant’s concept.
Beginner’s Luck marks Kantak’s third restaurant. His hospitality group, In Good Spirits, also operates The Gladly in central Phoenix, which marked its 10th anniversary in 2023, and Citizen Public House, a Scottsdale favorite since 2011.
New American-Style Menu
Kantak crafted the menu, while Chef de Cuisine Benjamin Graham will head the kitchen operations. The new eatery will serve American-style brunch, midday, and dinner menus.
“We are reimagining a diner with an ingredient-forward approach and a refined twist, but don’t look forward to too many retakes on the classics,” Kantak expressed in the press release.

In addition to its “vibrant flavors”, Beginner’s Luck will also offer coffee, handcrafted cocktails, and daily wines. The restaurant aims to provide a seamless dining experience, wrapped up in a stylish and eclectic interior that fosters a cozy and relaxed atmosphere.

Beginner’s Luck is set to open its doors in February at 7240 E. Main St., Scottsdale.
