TL/DR –
The University of Rochester recently conducted an Employee Experience Survey, aimed at improving the workplace environment by converting employee feedback into actionable plans. Managers and leaders across the University have been sharing these results with their teams, identifying priorities, and tracking progress on implementing changes. The next Employee Experience Conversation with Leaders will focus on initiatives related to improving safety in the workplace.
Utilizing Employee Feedback for Progress at University
Following our Employee Experience Survey, we shifted focus from collecting insights to taking action. University leaders and managers have been collaborating with their teams to prioritize feedback and devise action plans. We are now ready to implement these plans, monitor progress, and make necessary adjustments. Everyone has a role to play in enhancing our workplace environment.
Action Plan Progress Across University
To understand how this transformative process is taking shape, we spoke with some of our managers. Here are their valuable insights:
“I found the heatmap and analytics pages very useful for understanding team feedback. They provided additional opportunities for interaction. I asked and answered questions, and encouraged open and honest input from my team.” – Shelley Zoeke, Manager of Academic Finance and Operations at Hajim.
“When we reviewed the survey results as a team, I was struck by the level of engagement in the conversation. It confirmed the effectiveness of our current efforts and provided ideas for future improvement. Team members have now volunteered to pilot these ideas into action.” – Maren Powell, Business Operations Manager, University Marketing and Communications.
“The survey allowed us to better understand how to meaningfully recognize our team members. Without the survey, we wouldn’t have received this level of input. Many of the suggestions are straightforward and achievable.” – Alexa Consul, Nurse Manager.
“We surveyed our staff to understand their values and what’s important to them. It’s crucial that everyone is involved in change.” – John Blackshear, Vice President for Student Life.
“The survey reiterated what we’ve heard from regular check-ins with the staff, reemphasizing our focus areas and pointing out areas where improvements can be made.” – Jessica Milnikiewicz, Nurse Manager, Golisano Children’s Hospital.
“We broke down the survey results and selected areas where we can make a difference. We then communicated these plans to the staff, reinforcing that their feedback is valued and acted upon.” – Ryan Fields, Chair, Seymour I. Schwartz Professor of Surgery.
