United Healthcare to Cover Elucid’s Cardiovascular Imaging AI, PlaqueIQ

United Healthcare has agreed to cover PlaqueIQ, the image analysis software by cardiovascular imaging AI firm, Elucid. This comes as a result of the insurer’s new guideline, which now includes coronary computed tomography angiography (CTA) plaque quantification, specifically referencing PlaqueIQ.

The coverage will be effective for all United Healthcare plans from October 1, extending the benefits of this advanced AI to a larger pool of patients. United Healthcare’s updated guidelines match the recent guidelines issued by radiology benefit manager, EviCore.

Elucid has highlighted the impact of the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule final rule implemented in January this year. It has doubled the payment made to healthcare institutions performing cardiac CT scans, increasing from $175 to $357.13, making PlaqueIQ a more financially viable option for hospitals and outpatient clinics.
