VA Long Beach Healthcare System Earns The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval

The VA Long Beach Healthcare System has received The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Hospital, Home Care, and Behavioral Health Care and Human Services Program Accreditation. The Gold Seal is a prestigious symbol demonstrating a health care organization’s commitment to safe and high-quality patient care.

The accreditation process included a rigorous, unannounced inspection between March 25 and 28, 2025. A team from The Joint Commission assessed compliance with standards for various areas such as leadership, patient safety, environment of care, infection control, medication management, provision of care, and individual rights and responsibilities.

These standards are developed in consultation with health care experts, providers, measurement experts, and patients. They are grounded in scientific literature and expert consensus, helping health care organizations measure, assess, and enhance their performance.

Walt C. Dannenberg, VA Long Beach Medical Center Director, expressed his pride in the team’s commitment to Service Excellence and adherence to national healthcare standards. He said, “The Gold Seal reflects our team’s tireless dedication to providing the highest quality care to our Veterans.”

The Joint Commission’s surveyors conducted on-site observations and interviews with patients and VA employees. VA Long Beach achieved its accreditation through a constant commitment to patient safety and quality, regular training on national standards and best practices, continuous internal reviews for standards compliance, and careful risk area analysis.

Ken Grubbs, executive vice president of Accreditation and Certification Operations and chief nursing officer at The Joint Commission, commended VA Long Beach for advancing safety, quality, equity, and compassion for all patients.
